Brakes Motor Company is a family run motor dealership in the heart of Somerset. In 2010 Brakes celebrates its 65th year in business and the 51st year selling and repairing Fords.
founded in 1945 by John “Jack”Brake as a small engineering workshop and fuel station, in 1959 Jack achieved his dream when he acquired the Ford franchise which was consequently passed down to his son Colin and his daughter Janet in 1968.
Colin and Janet successfully drove the business forward taking on the Texaco franchise and building a new modern workshop and showroom, forecourt shop.
In 1992 Colin and Janet retired from the mainstream business. Also in that year John Charles, the grandson of John Brake moved from being in the workshop as a mechanic to sales. Later that year larger premises were purchased just 100 yards down the road.
John Charles being of such a young age of 22 years when he took on the business has strived to drive the business forward even more. On concentrating on his hard beliefs on enabling a family maintained approach and outlook with a philosophy of constantly raising the standards to our customer expectations and striving to give our customers the best possible purchase and aftersales experience.
True to our mission statement “Big enough to cope, small enough to care” we aim to keep in excess of 100 new and used Fords in stock backed by our Ford approved service and parts centre ran by a fully dedicated and friendly aftersales team.
The speciality of the business is selling new and nearly new Fords at very competitive prices. Our new modern workshops are fully equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment allowing us to keep up to date with the latest Ford products. We offer a complete after sales service including courtesy cars, MOTs, valeting, plus a whole lot more.
In 2007 Brakes Motor Company redeveloped its current site to meet Fords new standards with a new showroom, service reception, workshops and the expansion of the forecourt display and parking facilities.
